Iberdrola Foundation Scholarships 2010-British/Spanish nationals-Edinburgh University-UK

Scholarships and Student Finance Office of The University of Edinburgh is going to organize Iberdrola Foundation Scholarships for the year 2010 for either British or Spanish nationals

Up to 40 scholarships are now available for postgraduate study in the area of Energy Sustainability. These Masters and PhD Scholarships, provided by the Iberdrola Foundation, are available in the following areas:

  1. Renewable energies
  2. Sustainable energy system
  3. Environment and biodiversity
  4. Clean carbon technologies, emissions management and carbon capture
  5. Energy efficiency
  6. Energy storage
  7. Electric vehicles
  8. Smart distribution networks

Each scholarship covers tuition fees plus a maintenance allowance of £1,200 per month. Awards are made for one year in the first instance but may be extended for one further year for PhD scholars with the approval of the Iberdrola Foundation. Please note that only in very exceptional cases will an award be approved for a third or fourth year.

Eligibility:

Applicants should be of either British or Spanish nationality, hold a good undergraduate degree, and possess excellent English language skills.


Application Procedure:

Applicants should complete an online scholarship application form which can be found on the Iberdrola Foundation website before the deadline of 7 March 2010.
In addition applicants should also submit in pdf format by e-mail (programa.becasfundacion@IBERDROLA.es) to the Iberdrola Foundation the following required documentation:

  • Photocopy of national identity card or passport
  • Curriculum vitae and recent photograph of the applicant
  • In the case of having completed higher studies, a photocopy of the true and certified degree, as well as a photocopy of other degrees achieved by the applicant. Candidates that have achieved higher degrees outside of Spain must include an equivalent transcript of academic qualifications from the foreign country corresponding to those of Spain, issued by the relevant authorities
  • True and certified photocopy of higher degree certificates detailing all subjects and qualifications achieved, course by course
  • Supporting certificate for level of languages
  • For PhD studies, if the research work will be carried out within a university or research institute where the applicant is appointed as a researcher, a letter of introduction from the person responsible is required, stating the circumstances of the appointment that are deemed relevant
  • A statement justifying the interest in the study project, with a maximum of 2,000 words
  • Two original letters, or certified photocopies, of references from university professors or other relevant people that have had academic contact with the applicant
  • Any other documents that the applicant considers of interest for evaluating merit.

**Please note that completed online application forms and the above supporting documentation must be received by the Iberdrola Foundation no later than 7 March 2010.(Please note that this deadline has been extended from 28 February 2010 for applicants from the UK.)


University of Edinburgh Applicants:

  1. Applicants wishing to study at the University of Edinburgh under the Iberdrola Foundation Scholarships scheme, should indicate clearly on the online scholarship application form, within the section “Application for a detailed study”, that the university at which they intend to undertake their postgraduate studies is “The University of Edinburgh.”
  2. Application for postgraduate admission at the University of Edinburgh should be made via the University’s on-line admission system. Application is made via the University’s Prospectus at www.ed.ac.uk/studying/postgraduate/finder.
  3. Shortlisted candidates should expect to be invited to attend an interview which will take place in May/June 2010.
  4. The winners of the scholarship will be announced on Friday 5 July 2010.
