What is the OPT Program?
Training for students can be available in many fields, including arts, science, mathematics, computer applications, technology, and the social sciences; or separately. OPT is paid training done in a field that is related to the major you are studying at. For STEM students, this is called STEM-OPT.
Post-completion OPT is the time following the completion of the program where you can ensure that you will have enough time to seek an OPT exemption.
International college students who study in the United States can apply for 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT), while students in STEM fields at an American university can apply for a further 24-month STEM OPT Extension.
What are the new study fields added to the STEM list?

6. Anthrodopsology: This includes instruction in animal behavior and communication, animal rights, animal welfare, animal species protection, animal conservation, animal training, animal-assisted therapies, biology, consciousness,
7. Earth Science is a course on the Earth sciences, including biology, chemistry, climate analysis, climate change adaptation/mitigation, climate policy, ecology, environmental impacts, climate development, and oceanography.
It includes courses in the biology of earth systems, climate dynamics, geographical information systems, geophysics, hydrology, landscape ecology, meteorology, and satellite remote sensing.
The program is interwoven with fields such as economics, public policy, engineering, mathematics, and statistics.
8. Environmental Geosciences in the Ontario Career Pathway Program is reserved for high school students in these special areas. There are geographic information systems (GIS), weather, geological, hydrological, military, regulatory agency/compliance, and identification, mitigation, harm identification/management.

11. Mathematics and Atmospheric STEM: it includes instruction in chemistry and physics, atmospheric and ocean dynamics, climatology, weather simulation, climate modeling, statistics and geography. etc
12. Data Science is mostly about computer algorithms, computer programming, data management, data mining, information policy, information retrieval, mathematical modelling, quantitative analysis, and statistics. The course concentrate on more example and you will try to apply these functions.
13. Data Analytics, General: It includes instruction in computer programming, computer databases, inference, machine learning, probability, optimization, stochastic models, strategy, statistics, uncertainty quantification, and visual analytics.

Through a series of new grant and training programs, DHS is expanding the number of students who excel in STEM and contribute to the economy. Pursuing Leadership in Engineering and Science (PLES) is a new DHS TechPledge program that provides financial support to students who need help paying for student loans while they finish technical prerequisites for STEM jobs. Through the PLES program, DHS is adding seven new technical degree programs at community colleges and technical schools in up to 12 states.
